Man Faces Felony Charge After Throwing Kitten From Moving Vehicle On LI

A 43-year-old man is facing a felony charge of animal cruelty after police say he threw a kitten out of a moving vehicle in Southampton.

It happened on Thursday, July 4 at about 8 a.m., when the Southampton Town Police received a call describing the incident involving the vehicle, which was headed east on Flanders Road near Spinney Road in the hamlet of Flanders. 

The vehicle was located a short time later by patrol officers. 

Southampton Town Police Department detectives responded to the scene and transported Hector Herrera Castillo to police headquarters. He was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a Class E felony.

Herrera Castillo was processed at police headquarters will be held overnight for morning arraignments on Friday, July 5.
